Alice Gorton
Alice uses a personal experience as the genesis of her work then develops it through memories and photographs, the work breaks from the traditional landscape to create a more atmospheric space through abstraction. Everybody sees something different in the works, just as everyone feels something different about a place, a time or an event. The work often shifts between the uncanny and the beautiful, it is successful if the viewer can keep returning and see something new. Materials and process are important to her, as she combines unique, innovative uses and combinations of media in ways which can be discordant but are always interesting. Alice works predominantly in inks and oils but tries to push the boundaries of the paints with manipulation of texture and bold use of colour.
Alice is a full-time professional artist based in Gloucestershire and graduated in fine art painting from Bath Spa University. Alice collaborates with the company ARTIQ, who arrange hire and sale of fine art to prestigious business premises in London. Alice has joined an art organisation called 'ART CAN' that creates opportunities for artists to exhibit in London galleries, such as 'The Mall Gallery', ‘Clerkenwell Gallery’ and at private events across London. Alice is a member of the 'Trumpet Corner Art Collective' in Herefordshire and has also exhibited at The Royal Birmingham Society of the Arts.
The artist works from a studio at the end of her garden, fuelled by tea and the radio, and plagued by her dog.
