Durham
Mixed Media on Canvas
77 x 102cm
2014
SOLD
I was commissioned to create a painting of Durham. I enjoyed my visit to this city very much. I wanted to convey how compact and forested the city was as well as show the beautiful green river that meanders through its centre. I used an overlay of several of the city's landmarks including the Cathedral, the castle and the viaduct. I felt all these architectural elements needed uplifting as Durham had such vibrancy, I therefore made a stencil of the 'Rose Window' from the Cathedral and spray painted it, creating a more surreal and magical space as it intersected the landscape.
