I have taken part in the family past time of pheasant shooting since I was 4, beating through the woods and flushing the birds out. I see it as a valuable part of country life and I wanted to explore some of the fond memories I have of these long days in the countryside with my family and the rest of the farming community. I inserted the ends of shotgun cartridges as signifiers of the sport, and built up marks and textures inspired by the woods and the pheasants themselves in oils.
